Small Encyclopaedia of Chess Openings CD - $63.95
Could a million game database help people to master the openings? Perhaps, if they worked 25 hours a day, had elephantine memories and were able to separate valuable information from the surrounding chaff.

Half of century ago, when apart from Hastings there were only two or three international tournaments a year, openings books were based, not on huge numbers of examples, but rather the main ideas from a few games by leading players.

The Small Encyclopaedia of Chess Openings combines this selective approach with today's exhaustive collection of material.

The five volume Encyclopaedia of Chess Openings - A, B, C, D, E - consists of 500 sections based on opening codes. Its key quality, unique among openings books, is a system of elimination which helps the reader to find the critical lines in the midst of the abundance of information.

The Small Encyclopaedia of Chess Openings is based on the same 500 fundamental codes and system of elimination but it's a fifth the length. Instead of five books just one! The best and most up to date information. The creative output of generations of chess masters filtered for the reader's convenience.

One of the main problems of tournament play is successfully negotating the opening. The Small Encyclopaedia of Chess Openings gives easy access to clear and reliable information for the numerous chess players who have competitive ambitions but only limited time to dedicate to chess. While for players with greater competitive experience and chess professionals, the Small Encyclopaedia of Chess Openings offers an ideal repository of information and the exact evaluation of critical lines.

Encyclopaedia of Chess Openings, Volume A, Fourth Edition CD - $63.95
Encyclopaedia of Chess Openings chain is made up of innumerable chains - games. Each game has the precisely defined place in this chain, which depends on estimation of a new move in opening, while the complete value of the book depends on the correctness of these estimations.
  • without 1. d4, 1. e4
  • 1. d4 without 1... d5, 1... Nf6
  • 1. d4 Nf6 without 2. c4
  • 1. d4 Nf6 2. c4 without 2... e6, 2... g6

The basis of ECO are the games from Chess Informant annotated by the best players of today and the estimations given by them. They are guarantee and filter through which all the openings comprised by the volume A - 4th edition, have passed through: English Openings, Dutch Defence, Benoni, Reti, Volga Gambit…
ECO A, EE is electronic edition of the ECO A in the Chess Informant Reader format. It is available from March, 23th, while the printed book is available in the beginning of April, 2001.

Encyclopaedia of Chess Openings, Volume B, Fourth Edition CD - $63.95
Probably the most wanted Chess Informant's publication, the fourth expanded edition of the Encyclopaedia of Chess Openings, Volume B,
  • all Black's responses against 1. e4 except 1... e6 and 1... e5:
Sicilian, Caro-Kann, Pirc, Modern, Alekhine, Scandinavian and all other Black's rare opening choices against the bold advance of White's king's pawn
  • games and analyses from Chess Informants 1-82
  • important game entries from recent tournament practice
  • revised ECO codes

Chess Informant's trademark system of elimination remains one of the key qualities that contributes to the fundamental value of the Encyclopaedias. Previously filtered into Chess Informants 1-82, all lines had to additionally pass through multiple sieves of the Chess Informant Editorial Board to deserve their place in the fourth edition. Moreover, only the most extraordinary examples that failed to find their way to the Informants managed to sneak into the new Encyclopaedia. So, that's the story of the fourth expanded edition of the Encyclopaedia of Chess Openings, Volume B, and it seems to be the story of success - Chess Informant never leaves a single dilemma on what to expect in the outcome!

The Pirc Defence - $57.95
The Pirc Defence is a highly flexible and double-edged opening with which Black can avoid premature simplification and go for the full point. By first developing his kingside he waits to see how White will deploy his own forces before striking back in the most effective way. The top exponents of the Pirc include Mikhail Gurevich, Alexander Chernin, Jan Timman, Yasser Seirawan, Jonathan Speelman, Zurab Azmaiparpashvili and Alexander Belyavsky; in the past it was a great favourite of Mikhail Botvinnik and Tony Miles. Here Nigel Davies explains the ideas and backs this up by showing exactly how Black should react to White‘s different formations. Video running time: 7 hours.

Davies has been a Grandmaster since 1993 and is a former British Open Quickplay and U21 Champion. He has had a lot of experience with the Pirc having played it extensively throughout his career.
